I really like my wheels but there are a few things that bug me about them:

1) Offset's too low - even with rolled fenders I'm still rubbing. If I switch back to 195/50s it might take care of it, but on 7" rims they may look even more stretched--yuck.

2) The "open" design seems optimized for extracting and collecting brake dust. My crappy EBC pads might also contribute, I admit.

3) Cleaning 40 spokes every other weekend has gotten to me.

So I'm thinking about getting some '06 Miata rims. They're 16x6.5+55mm, so I'd have to run 3/8-1/2" spacers to make it look right. I'm guessing they're not too much heavier than stock P5 wheels, but I don't really know. What do you guys (& girls, if applicable) think?

I like 'em. I think I'm gonna be switching out my rims too once I switch over to winter tires .. I'm gettin kinda sick of them. Wanna find something black (not gunmetal) and higher offset as well. Those Miata rims look nice tho.

I like em. they aren't my fav MX-5 wheel though.. there's this one that is definitely the rarest because I've only seen it a couple times and can't find pics of it. it's gotta be a 17 though.. looks crazy nice. plus with a 17 you can still run 205/45 and it's not all that low profile

I'm not considering factory 17s because they're usually like 23 pounds. But which Miata wheels are you talking about? Description? Pics?

You're right--they're beautiful. All Mazda rims look great on P5s!!!! But too many spokes for me .

Man, the search for these is going pretty slowly. No responses to wtb threads on two forums, nothing on eBay, nothing on craigs, nothing on miata.net. Some other guy has a wtb ad for a set already on the latter site.

Don't these NC guys get aftermarket rims? This may take a while...

the only thing I know about wheels is that mine are stock so can someone explain offset to me? I like those miata wheels tho

Tire Rack has a pretty good explanation of it. It's pretty much the distance in millimeters from the center of the rim to the mounting hub where you screw in the lug nuts. Positive offset means that the mounting hub is closer to the outside of the wheel, and negative offset rims have the hub located further in.

Our cars have a stock offset of +50. That means that the mounting hub is located 50mm from the center of the rim. Higher positive offset means the wheel will be tucked in further towards the car body, whereas higher negative offset means the wheels will stick out further from the body on most cars. Hopefully that narrows it down, but if not Tire Rack does a good job of explaining it in relatively simple terms.
