Mazda 3 Seat belt warning
I have a good friend who has a brand new Mazda 3. The seatbelt warning is driving him crazy! The manual says he needs to contact the dealer for the deactivation procedure, but they said they can't tell him how to do it.
Has anyone been able to turn it off? Can you provide a how-to? I've been searching for it and have yet to find anything. Thanks in advance!

Wow, what a wealth of information this group is, thanks for all of the help so far! Good job jumping to conclusions. Look, I wasn't looking for ethical suggeseions here, as he is very aware of the risks. However, like most car enthusiasts he doesn't feel the need to be informed of everything you need to do, every time you use the car.
I asked the same question about my miata when I was looking for a way to disable my idiot light when I installed the race harness for autocross. Or when I pulled all of the HVAC controls out and modified the wiring to allow the defrost to be used without the air conditioning automatically turning on.

Rotary Switch
I think you will find that there is a rotary seat belt switch attached to the belt retractor. What you will have to do is cut the wires, and then jumper them together and this will cancel the warning system.

Timberwulf, thanks for your response. I think worst case scenerio that is what he'll do. The strange thing is that the dealer has a way of just simply turning the warning off but they said they cannot tell him because seatbelts are required in our state. On my 2004 Stratus there was a combination of plugging in and unplugging the seatbelt while turning the ignition on. This would disable the buzzer, but kept the dash warning light on. The how-to for the Stratus was listed in the manual whereas the Mazda manual tells him to see the dealer.

Funny, ha ha! It just makes sense to put it on when it goes off, and it is a good tool for the safety reasons, but I do have to agree that it shouldn't make the noise it does. It is very annoying. I wanted to get rid of mine too, but someone made a good point, they make it annoying for that reason. It's just funny that this conversation kept going on and everybody was responding as if this guy was retarded! It was just funny reading all of it!

Well,
You could also pull the belt out a certain length and clamp it off with
a paper clamp, clothespin, vice-grips, alligator clips- etc. or anything
else that you never had a use for before, but now will work nicely
to keep tha darn old annoying buzzer from going off.

Let me see if I have this correct. Your friend doesnt see the need to wear his seat belt ,Or he just wants to disarm the alarm. In either we have an issue . In the first case your friend needs to figure out what is good for himself he may not see the need but the seat belt it is there for a reason. Ie: To not be thrown from the vehicle ,crushing his melon, I ask you whats wrong with that???. In the second why would anyone see the need to disarm something that reminds you to be safe .It just dont make sense. Anyway i hope this helps your friend to get his prioritys straight I hate to see anyone killed because they cant figure out how to wear a seat belt. ..........Thanks ............... Clue

Thanks again No Clue for your ethical insight here.. Did you completely disregard any of my subsequent posts?!?! As I clearly stated before, he definitely has a understanding of the risks involved in not wearing a seatbelt.....primarily because we are both motor vehicle accident investigators working for an insurance company. We spend ALL DAY LONG analyzing motor vehicle accidents. So I thank you again for your constructive ethical insight.
