i have a 91 dx (rear drum) and i am looking for a good brake pads that arent to much, for both front and rear. what do you suggest. what is the difference between carbon fiber and mettalic that big or does it not matter. what are you running. thanks for any input.

Not sure what is out there in the cheap hi-perf pads. Most are for the LX.

Carbon/kevlar and carbon metallic pads generally wear longer and survive higher temps than semi-metallic pads, although some can wear faster (but with much greater braking). They also tend to work better when cold.

An example of semi-metallics are the Axxis Metal Master. They work well and last long, but when cold, they don't work at all. And for lapping days, they can get too hot, which causes them to wear quickly.

Carbon metallics, like Porterfield or Performance Friction, can range from performance like the semi-metallic but with good cold response to full race, rotor eating pads that will work best with the rotors glowing.

Carbon Kevlar (like Hawk and EBC) give good performance over the widest range, with good rotor friendliness and excellent friction qualities, although with somewhat less wear. They also make some dark dust under heavy use.

looks like ill try to find some EBC's. And since I drive hard the the black dust shouldn't be that big of a problem.

Tire Rack sells them for $69, IIRC. You might be able to find them cheaper. They won't last as long as the stock pads, though, but they work SOOO much better.

Davard is absolutely right. Those brake pads with metal content will eat rotors one way or the other. Thus it's the owner's choice. I've been using EBC Black stuff on the front for 2 yrs straight and it's very rotor friendly! Again, it's the owner's choice.

This model is similar to the '87 Mazda 626. Ford Telstar is a name given for the South East Asian market. It does not look like a protege, but a big brother of the protege.
My friend is a hard-core Mazda BPT powerplant fan so he made the grill Mazda. This particular car never made it to the US soil.
