Lightbulb 3G Protege: Door Panel Removal

FYI: I made a photo instruction page for those of you who need instructions on how to remove the front door panel from a 3rd gen Protege for speaker installation.

Hope it is helpful.

Thanks for your kind words. I'll try to document some more things in a similar manner as I modify the car.

JDMstuff,
Nice bumper! Where'd you get that? Is that a J-spec item?

I'm using the DG front lip in fiberglass. You can get them at dgmotorsports.com

Great job. Is very helpful to actually see the details that you describe. I am planning on replacing the speakers soon so this is a big help. Thanks again

Nice ride Jason,
It looks like you got the 2002.5 refresh. Enjoy the ES. It's a great little car.

Thanks for the detailed instructions. This is what all 'How-to's should be like, very easy to follow and understand.

Thanks

I believe the front door of the P5 is very similar. The difference seems to be that the P5's have a slightly different door handle (the one to close the door, not the one to open). I've seen some photos of P5's (and the Mazdaspeed Pro) with an extra diagonal handhold.

Due to that you probably need to remove an additional screw. Shouldn't be difficult. Most Japanese car doors are quite similar and share the same concept of removal.

I haven't tried removing the rear door panels. The sedans don't need to because we have speakers in the rear decks, which is also removed easily.

I just did speakers and new head unit. Here's a web site that leads you through it pretty well. The only thing missing is snapping off the door sail speaker but that's pretty easy. All 4 new speakers took less than 2 hours. Get those foam boxes for the back though-- it's pretty hollow back there.

have fun!
