Mazda 5 2006 HVAC Fan Motor Bad

Help! We have a 2006 Mazda 5 with 39,900 (of COURSE out of warranty). The motor running the HVAC started making a sound much like a bike tire with a playing card in it, but in a much deeper tone.

Methinks the bearings are getting ready to go in the blower(?) motor, and right at the start of hot weather in Cincinnati! I will get it to the dealer this week, but would appreciate any thoughts as to what the sound might be and / or what it could mean.

i have a similar sound coming from my 2005 mazda 3, the ac has started not turning on right away when i turn the switch, it will take a few seconds to a few minutes to actually turn on so i dont know if i am having the same problem as you

i'd assume they are bushings and not bearings, so the shaft wobble could start - though that should change when you turn, speed up etc...
Any leaves and junk that could have been pushed in there?

I'd just like to revive this thread...I have an '06 Mazda 5 as well...it is making the aforementioned noise (deep rumble)...the air flow seems normal...I replaced the two cabin air filters a couple days ago (they were very dirty) hoping that might be the problem, but it wasn't.

Anybody have this problem fixed? What did you (or they) do? What did it cost?

Thanks...
