Please help with HID headlight
 

I had an accident about a month ago. Some guy in a jeep slid into my car. And I had my mazda3 repaired at Bommaritto Mazda south county. When I got it, I realized that my headlights don't match anymore. My right headlight (the old one that didn't get damaged) is bluish white while the left one (the one that's supposedly just got replaced by the dealer) is yellowish white.

So I took my car back and told them and they told me that there is only one kind of bulb that comes form mazda corp, D2S and they don't have shade options. Is this true? And if it is true, how come my head lights are two different colour now? I was argueing with them for almost an hour and all they said was nothing can be done. He said they are the same colour and it's just looked brighter since it's new. And he also told me that the bulb costs $200 a piece. He showed me the box and all but I still have problem believing him. What can I do? Is he lying? Is the bulb maybe will fade from its yellowish tint and will match my right one ?

HID lights do change color over the life of the bulb. Your option at this point would be to replace the other bulb so that both have the same number of hours on them. Also if you're looking at new bulbs I would check out hidplanet.com for much less expensive bulbs. The kelvin (color temp) rating of the bulb will tell you what color it will be. All OEM HID lamps are 4100-4300 kelvin. Lower kelvin ratings are more yellow, and higher ones are more blue..... really high ones are purplish.

yeah if anything.. i say pick up some 5000k hid bulbs you will have that slightly blue outupt in both headlights.. you can get them from online stores much cheaper, also check out xenonexpert.com, thexenonstore.com and see what their prices are

Note that all OEM HIDs (including the BMWs, Acuras, etc. with the blue effect) use 4100-4300k lamps. The blue effect you see from their lights is due to the optics of the projector and the lens. If you swap the OEM frosted lens with a clear one, and add a few washers as spacers between the shield and projector then you'll get that blue effect without compromising the output of the lights by going with a bluer kelvin rating.
