totally bypass the mass air flow sensor...

can i totally bypass my mass air flow sensor...?????????

to hook up my cold air intake...

funkdaddysmack November-21st-2002 02:51 PM

No, you need it for the engine to run. If you switched to a high-end ecu like haltec you could use map sensors, but you're car won't run without your maf.

jeremy November-21st-2002 03:00 PM

is there any way i could still install my cold air intake without bypassing my maf....

has anyone done this mod...

like could i just leve the flow meter box and take the old filter out then put my cone in and rout a duct to under my bumper...

any tips or anything would be helpful

Braden had a CAI on the turboge when it was still NA. I dunno if it's custom fab or what... MAF still in place...

There's a pic on this page:

thanks for the replies yo......but

HOW DID YOU MOUNT THE CONE ONTO THE FLOW METER LIKE THAT...IT HAS A SQUARE OPENING....:wackit:

Yeah , i ment a cold air intake....but i'm just trying to throw the cone filter on now...

i'm making a custom cai..but it will take me a while to get the supplies i need...i'm making it with a short civic intake tube or a weapon r.....because both can fit well with little mod....

thanx

You can find the adapters really easily on ebay.

mazdaspeedwest November-22nd-2002 10:04 PM

here's my take on the intake ;)

all custom (more stuff on my site, a link is below in my sig)

and here's what you can't see down in the fender

Don't be fooled by the $9.99 crap on ebay for the adapters, they look like sheet and usually don't fit. You need a good seal and a cheap ass, made in 10 mins POS adapter, is not going to do that. JMHO

Oh, not to sound like a dick dude, but how the hell did you expect the ECU to know how much air is coming into the engine? There has to be an air:fuel ratio and if the ECU "see's" no air....then it doesn't provide the fuel either, even though there is obviously air going to the engine via the intake, the ECU has no idea since the air sensor is gone.... that make sense to you?

jeremy November-26th-2002 05:00 PM

yeah it makes plenty of sense........

oh and whats up with all those fuckin seals on your intake tube...

did you cut a peice of pipe to make it fit....why don't you give me some tips then so i can do this project on my own instead of spending money for an EIP TUNNING intake tube...

thanks

well for starters, if you have been looking at the EIP intake, and it comes in peices, then you should be familiar with the extra fucking couplings, of which on mine, there is only one.

Yes, i cut a U bend pipe from JC Whitney to fit. You didn't ask for tips on buidling an intake, but how to bypass the VAF, but i did direct you to my website for tips...you did go there, didn't you?

If not then here are the 2 pages i have for my intake.
