Dynotronics tune experience

For those of you that arent over at mazda3revolution I wanted to post my results and experience I have had with dynotronics tuning my 2013 mazda 3 2.0 skyactiv. I really feel this information needs to be out there for people to see when making a decision on who to tune their car.

Ok so first and foremost I want to start this post off by saying that back when I first started this process in May of 2014 I was completely totally sold on the professionalism of Dynotronics and very excited to finally get a little more umph out of my little skyactiv 2.0. Throughout the process until just a couple of days ago I gave Joe nothing but praise defending him on facebook pages and even sending a lot of people his direction to get tuned. I would like to apologize to anyone I convinced to go with dynotronics as I will show in this post.

Over the course of about 7 months and 8 files I thought I was making progress. So I ran into skyactiver on facebook and we both "being tuned by different tuners" wanted to compare logs and see who was seeing the greatest gains, not just in sheer HP numbers but in real world situations such as increased or decreased times of acceleration through certain speed ranges etc. So the first few sets of logs he ran for me things weren't looking very good but at the time I had yet to log my 8th file from joe which IMO felt the strongest yet. When I finally did get around to logging that File skyactiver immediately noticed something strange and familiar about my exhaust cams.. They were soo familiar because they are ripped off from some of OVs older work which was admitted by both tuners 4 months prior as being unsafe for extended use due to it causing knock at cruise. This extremely disturbing since I ran this file for almost 2 months.

After dissecting my actual tune file we were able to view and confirm that I was indeed given cam tables in my 8th tune file from dynotronics that were originally created as tests by OV and deemed unsafe by both tuners. We can also prove that these tables far pre date dynotronics using them by almost 4 months by the times that a couple of OVs customers were testing them.

Now that we have established that Joe decided to rip off some of OVs old settings lets take a closer look at why via some awesome graphs skyactiver helped put together comparing all of my previous logs. Keep in mind all of my log files are very consistent and done as precisely as humanly possible in the exact same spot.

First we have a graph showing my %difference in time to complete a 3rd gear pull using a completely stock tune pull as a baseline. Each set of bars represents a different tune file. Lower the number the better on this one.

The next 3 graphs demonstrate the actual time to compete various speed ranges over all of my tune files.

Now this last graph is the Vdyno comparison of a stock file, My 7th file "joes last one before he used OVs settings" and the 8th File containg settings from OVs pre beta test tunes.

NOTE: completely ignore the actual HP and TQ numbers as those are skewed by my logging going uphill actual results on a flat surface would vary but these were all logged in the exact same place. This is a demonstration of the lack of progress Joe made over the course of 7 months. Then what he was able to do by simply using OVs old cam tables..

Legend:
Stock: brown and grey
File 7: yellow and green
File 8 "OV pre-OTS maps" : blue and red

so as we can clearly see Joe actually never made any progress past what the stock file could make until the last file he sent me which used OVs pre-OTS test settings. This is extremely disappointing after spending hundreds of dollars and wasting a lot of gas and time logging to literally accomplished pretty much nothing in terms of positive gains and wasting my time and money.

Now for one more nail in the coffin for me. I had made a post on one of the facebook groups about how I was experiencing a lot of black suit on my bumper from my exhaust. Dynotronics account on facebook posted for me to email him and he would explain. So basically he told me i was tuned on the rich side because of my bumped rev limiter and that the PIDs in mazdaedit can only read down to 12.67.. Well thats very interesting as I have here a screenshot of StaFForD AFR for his boost tune and guess what.. It doesnt look like his logs had any problem reading a lower AFR..
