Have all the remotes that you are going to be using, maximum of 3, with you when you do this programming as all of them have to be reprogrammed into memory.

Step 1: Open driver side door and leave open.

Step 2: Lock and Unlock the drivers door using the power door lock switch on the door

Step 3: Insert key into the ignition.

Step 4: Turn Key to ON position and return to Lock (off) position. Do this 3 times within 10 seconds. LEAVE key in the ignition in Lock (off) position.

Step 5: Close and open the drivers door 3 times. Leave door open after this step

Step 6: ECU should respond by locking and unlocking the doors once.

Step 7: Press any button on remote #1 twice. ECU responds by locking and unlocking the car doors.

Step 8: Additional remotes, repeat Step 7 for up to 3 remotes total.

Step 9: Remove the key from the ignition and the ECU will respond a final time with a series (about 4) of door locks and unlocks. You're done!

I tired this method but after step 5 it doesn't work. I press a button on the remote but nothing happens. I even tried this method with both the factory keyless remote that i received when purchase the car and the one I recently brought on ebay and still nothing would respond when i did step 6.

Have you tried the programming with just the original two remotes and not the new one? Have you compared the FCC/Visteon numbers on the new remote to your working ones?

Yes, all the FCC/Visteon numbers are all the same. I currently have only 1 remote that was purchase with the car. The second one was purchase a few weeks on ebay. I thought maybe it could have been the battery so I replaced it. Ill try the programming with just the original remote then with the new remote. Ill keep you posted. Thanks for your time and input.

I have an '04 Mazda 3 hatchback and ran into the same problem while trying to program a new remote. ECU won't cycle locks.
Did you have any more luck?

if the batteries are good and the visteon numbers are the same then you shouldn't be having a problem. To confirm you're starting with the door open then:
-close, open
-close, open
-close, open

right? Honestly it worked for me on the first try so I never had to do troubleshooting with it.

Smile Programming a remote

I have an '04 Sport and the process listed works. In fact I witnessed a mazda technician perform the same procedure - high tech eh! I thought they would have a more sophisticated procedure. Just to let you know I bought a remote off of EBAY and it was a dud. I got my hands on another used remote and it also was a dud - who would have thought you could get 2 duds - a mazda technician felt sorry for me and gave me one that came from a car that he installed a remote starter on.

This is some kind of wrong guys. My car did't went into programming mode. The mistake is that you have to return the key to Acc postion not to Lock (off) position.
