Mazda 3 beeping noise
Hi all,
I have a Mazda 3, 1600 automatic, 2003.
Yesterday I was parking my car, switched off the ignition and noticed that the dashboard started blinking. I removed the key from the ignition but the blinking kept on going. When I opened the door, a rapid beeping sound occurred which was in sync with the blinking lights on the dashboard.
I started taking the car apart to see if some connector was loose or badly connected, but I have found no indication of such.
Today I opened the car and the beeping sound started immediately when the door was opened. closing the door makes the beeping sound go away, however the dashboard does not seem to flicker as it did yesterday, the km meter is just turned on. So the dashboard does not seem to be switched off when I turn the ignition to off and remove the key.
I also tried the advice given on this forum, regarding the key reminder alarm, I removed the red wire with black trace, but that did not stop the beeping sound.
When I turn the parking lights or headlights on, the beep becomes constant..
Has anyone had a problem similar to this one or have any idea on what might be the problem?

There are pretty much two chiming noises the 3 makes when a door is open... the "key in" reminder, and the headlight on reminder.
The key in chime is activated by a mechanical piece inside the ignition. If it becomes broken it always thinks there's a key in the ignition and will always chime. An easy way to check this is with whether or not your keyless entry works. The way the 3 is set up if the key's in the ignition then the remote entry doesn't work. So does your remote work?

Looking at the car from the outside, the headlights are definately off, and they don´t seem to flicker like my dashboard. It surely looks like a bad ground connection somewhere but the problem is that I have not been able to find an electrical drawing of the headlight on reminder system anywhere.

Fog lights?
I started removing the relays for the lights from the car, one by one, and when I removed the front fog light relay, the beeping sound stopped and the light flicker also stopped. The fog light indication light was however never turned on in the dashboard and the car doesn´t even have front foglights. The relay measures ok but seems to be getting a signal from somewhere. The rear fog lights are not turned on when the relay is in its place, and I have not measured if there is any voltage to the plugs to the front fog lights ( I would assume so though) but the plugs look fine.
Also I´m wondering, shouldn´t the dashboard turn completely off when I switch the car off? the image below shows the dashboard with the car turned off, and the key removed from the ignition. Should I be able to read the km status?

Yeah you definitely have something screwy there.
As to the LCD being lit up....... it's actually always displaying things, though when you turn off the backlight turns off so unless you shine a light on the face of it you can't read it. Unless you're in the mood for tracing back a weird electrical short you might want to take it to the dealer (assuming you're under warranty still).

Did you find the solution!!!? I just had the same problem today!
After a very long drive I just had the same problem with my mazda3 04 manual. Now the dashboard stays lit up when key is out of ignition and when I open the door the same alarm comes on as when your are not wearing your seatbelt, that or the alarm that comes on when you've left your headlights on.
Had someone check the engine and he couldn't find anything wrong, headlights are also fine.
Did you find out what the problem was and is it expensive to fix?

Glove box light!!
Thanks to this forum and the dealer I rang today, I now know all this is because of the bulb in the glove box. Imagine all that just to tell you your glove box bulb is out!!! Seems excessive huh!!
I wouldn't mind but I first rang a dealer in my own county and she wouldn't tell me anything, said I needed to bring it in and pay €90 just for them to plug it into their computer! Then I rang the dealer where the car was originally bought and they were great! Really helpful!! I know where I'd buy my next car!!!

Hi all,
I have a Mazda 3, 1600 automatic, 2003.

I have the same problem with my mazda 3. The beeping sound and blinking dashboard.
How did you fix it ?

Ignition Switch Problem
I have a new 2010 Mazda 3 purchased in March. In June the keyless entry occasionally would not work, and when the key was removed from the ignition there was chiming until the door closed. Open the door and it chimed.
It started intermittently but after a while the keyless entry did not work at all and the chiming happened every time I exited.
Then, the car battery was dead one morning. The local dealer replaced the ignition switch and all was well... for three weeks!
Last night it happened again, but this morning all was well when I drove it to the dealer, who cannot fix what they cannot detect as wrong.
Anybody have any answers to this one?
