I am looking for people that have experience with Nitrous kits. I have an 07 S GT and was looking into a wet kit that does 50 to 75 shot. How much would a kit cost installed? What are some pro's and con's? I dont wanna drop 3k on a turbo kit so I felt Nitrous is the way to go for an extra bump in horse power at the flick of a switch.

Well, yes and no. Installed you can probably get a NOS or ZEX wet nitrous kit installed for around $1500. You can use the 75hp ZEX jets without changing any of the major engine components, but you will need cooler Iridium spark plugs like Denso. Also, you'll then need to find a performance shop to put it on a dyno and adjust the nitrous levels, timing, and tune it up - depending on the shop that can get pricey too. I personally think a nitrous system does even better with more cold air so I think a CAI is a must and a high flow catback exhaust to relieve backpressure on the engine will improve the engine's efficiency and nitrous benefit. After you're done (which I'm not quite done yet) you're over $2000 for a professional set up. But if you hook it up to arm by toggle switch and then spray on full throttle you will have some serious ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM.

However, besides a top level turbo kit an installation, you'll have to upgrade several engine components in order to handle the constant boost. I asked the Mazdaspeed guys about dropping the DISI turbo from the M3 MS in my 2004 4 door and they patiently explained how it's a completely different set up. I still think about adding the right turbo when I see it come along. Right now though I've got a great track car, and don't want or need it to be a 1/4 mile car.

Good luck and keep me updated. I'm at 235bhp at 5700rpm on the bottle right now without proper dyno, plugs, and tuning/timing. More to come. This little project calls for 300bhp eventually.

Thanks for the info and its great to talk to someone who actaully has experience with Nitrous on their Mazda 3. I have a couple more questions...

-First of all can you please post some in depth pics of your nitrous install.
-Are you running a 50,75 or 100 shot?
-If you are running anything higher than a 50 shot how has your motor not blown up or overheated?
-How do you know your pushing 235 hp....or is that at the wheels?
-How do you tune the 3 when your using a stock ECU?

I'm running the 75hp jets for a ZEX wet nitrous system. You can download the documentation for your system; for ZEX, they show the maximum jets you can use without altering the stock 2.3l engine - for my system it's 75hp. 50hp is probably enough for most people, but I don't use it much and when I need it I want it to GO, and it does even though it hasn't been properly calibrated. The engine is safe on my system as long as I don't go above 75hp, which would require engine upgrades. Check with both your installer and factory nitrous system specs with your own eyes. I don't know about the 235bhp, just a good estimate. By tune, I mean it needs colder iridium plugs and a few other things that nitrous systems need to "tune" them up. The real benefit I'll get is when I get it to a tuning/HP/nitrous professional who can also put it on the dyno and then I expect some good hp at the wheels.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm hoping HUUAHHMazda3s is still around.

For starters, I know very little about nitrous so forgive me if these seem like stupid questions.

I have an 04 3i 5-door 2.3 and I want a little more zoom. It's my daily driver, I don't race it, and it's driven year round here in Wisconsin. I don't need much, just a boost now and then. After reading the posts by HUUAHHMazda3s, I'm thinking a 50hp shot will be enough. So here are my question:

Where do I find the installation instructions for a wet system? I'd like to see exactly what's involved.

Is a single jet into the intake tube an acceptable method of installing nitrous?

Where should I look for the parts (not the kits) I need to do this?

If I do the toggle-to-arm and spray at WOT, how long can I safely run at that rate without risking engine damage?

I plan to purchase the componants and install the system myself. There's not much I can't do mechanically, electrically or fabrication wise. Is this foolish, and if so, why?

I just spent my morning reading over ZEX's website and reading through the literature and installation instructions. That pretty much answered all of my questions. I suppose I should've looked there first, but I was hoping that someone here has done this already and had some more insight.

Turns out the installation is unbelievably simple. For wet or dry systems. I could almost do it in my sleep.

It did raise another question though... Wet or dry? Now that I know how each works, what's better for the stock 2.3l Mazda engine?

Also, with the dry system, will it affect the fuel delivery in any way when disarmed?
