I recently purchased a 2010 Mazda3 Sport i and I love almost everything about the car, except for the fact that this is a newer car that DOESN'T come standard with cruise control. I do alot of highway driving and although I love the way this car rides on the highway, long trips can get really tiring without cruise control.

After cruising the forums, I found out that older Mazda3 models could be modified to have cruise control. The modification was simply adding the cruise control switch and installing a different brake sensor. From what I've discovered, the 2010-12 models could also be modified to gain cruise control. The process is similar except the brake switch is the same and doesn't need to be replaced and the dealer needs to "enable" the cruise function from the IDS programming computer.

I recently acquired a 2010 leather steering wheel WITH cruise control buttons, trip computer buttons (but not nav) and bluetooth buttons. I was just going to add the the steering wheel to get cruise. But I also found the complete trip computer display at the same junk yard. It has two displays instead of just the radio display. The owners manual shows some of the operations and it looks pretty nifty.

From what I've read online and found through mazda service manuals, the wiring harness is in place and the CAN bus is already transmitting the data needed to run the trip computer. Other mazda forums have confirmed the trip computer will work when replacing the regular single screen radio display. I am going to install both the steering wheel with cruise control and trip computer buttons and the double display.
I'll post a complete write up with photos and any important diagrams I can mock up from the mazda service manual--to avoid copyright issues.

The only thing left to consider is the bluetooth functions that the steering wheel supports. Has anyone here tried to add the stock bluetooth module to their Mazda3? It looks like I'll need the microphone, the module and the buttons that come with my wheel.

Does anyone know about the stock bluetooth?

alfonz - did adding the cruise control switch and getting the cruise function from the IDS programming computer "enabled" work. I have a 2011 mazda3 w/o cruise, and I sorely want to add cruise. Thanks!

Yes this works. I just did this on my 2010 Mazda 3i Sport, with the exception that you do have to replace the brake switch/stop light switch with a cruise enabled one.

Be EXTREMELY careful with the black clips you pull out of the airbag connectors to remove them!

With the break switch there are two black tabs you have to rotate before you can install it, i spent a while figuring that out. They will rotate until under the blue humps.

Used these parts:
Cruise Control Module - Manufacturer Part Number: BEH3-66-4M0C
Brake Switch / Stoplight Switch - BN7N-66-490

Then went to the Mazda dealer and had them "enable cruise in instrument cluster options" and perform a PCM software update, and clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) from programming.

All told it cost me $134 for the module, $18 for the break switch, and $45 for the computer update (dealer only charged half an hr instead of the full $90 diagnostics charge, they were really slow when I went in). So all told it cost ~$200 for OEM cruise using brand new parts. I am happy with my install!
