View Full Version : Mazda 3, cheap chips-vs-high $ chips ?
mazdaford June-6th-2006, 06:52 PM I have seen cheap mod. chips that boast 20 hp but I have heard that all they do is change you Air temp sesor so on humid midwest days they can help.. but on cool 70* days you gain nothing.... does anyone know if this is true... and can you get any gain from these cheap chips.....Does the expensive ones do any better.
Roddimus Prime June-6th-2006, 10:21 PM There are NO "chips" for the newer mazdas. They just don't work. Save your money for traditional mods like intake/exhaust/header....or save for a while and buy some forged rods and a HiBoost turbo kit and make 508whp like my buddy Juan did.
KrazyKAZ June-7th-2006, 12:10 PM I was surfing around a little and found a site that claimed they had a chip for the new Mazda3. There aren't any stats or dynos associated with it, but it is a chip. apparently it's for a 1.6L Mazda3??? I think over seas they call it the Mazda3 Neo. Are they claiming "It's the one"

Roddimus Prime June-7th-2006, 12:11 PM If you just want a "chip" I'll sell you a dorito. It'll probably give you more WHP than that crap.
KrazyKAZ June-7th-2006, 12:22 PM Is the dorito comparably priced ? Will it work on the 2.3L ?
PM me!
:yelrotflm
Roddimus Prime June-7th-2006, 10:27 PM The dorito is still in the works for the 2.0L and 2.3L models. Estimated gains are +40whp w/ an increase of 25mpg across the board. Only $5+shipping....send it to me right now.
You can make out a check to me...my name is "Cash".

Ken@ProtegeGarage July-13th-2006, 08:52 PM we are one of the few exclusive retailers that will be offering the Microtech LT10s engine management system for the Mazda3. Dyno of a bone stock car with nothing more than a tuned Microtech showed a peak 14 horsepower gain to the wheels. The system controls all aspect of the fuel and spark system including the ability to control the variable valve timing. We think its a promising unit that is going to open a lot of doors for this car. contact me if interested.
Bartizek July-14th-2006, 03:17 PM and hopefully wont blow up and cars

can you "make" ah 160 hp motor to give 508 hp ??? I dont know much about engines, but that souds odd, I mean unless you replace everything but the oil filter :)
kargoboy July-17th-2006, 08:31 AM Anything is possible with enough $$. And yes, Juan made 508 whp with forged rods only and his turbo kit.
DEm July-17th-2006, 02:57 PM please elaborate :D can you directme to a tread with this "juan" guy or what are those forged things
kargoboy July-17th-2006, 05:53 PM Ken ^^^ P-garage may sell both. Check with him.
If he doesn't sell the kit contact Juan at Hiboost. Pretty sure it's just hiboost.com
DEm July-19th-2006, 02:46 PM niceee..... the catch its the $#%"#$% warranty plan, if you do anything to the car, you void it....
kargoboy July-19th-2006, 03:58 PM the official motto is if you can't afford the risks of modding then don't do it.
DEm July-19th-2006, 11:42 PM Wise indeed.... hehehe
momy, guess what... I fused the car's engine... again... :dunno:

I am surprised these chips don't work, from what I've seen the makers claim. I found a few sites and manufacturers that claim they make them for the Mazda3 and the chips are supposed to raise HP and maybe even gas mileage. I'm interested to learn as much as I can about them because I really don't understand how they operate. From what I have seen, they basically override the factory puter and give a better air to gas ratio. I'm trying to sort the claims from the truth, and save my $$ if they are truely bogus. At least a CAI I can understand, and guys have said the CAI's do help boost HP a certain %. I sure would like to hear exactly why they don't work from anyone who has first hand knowledge using any of these "chip" type products. I am posting a website or 2 to show what I am looking at. If they truely are crap, I thank you for saving me the trouble!
