hi! I'm from the philippines and im new here. I recently ordered a Mazda 3 Hatch with the MZR 1.6 liter engine. (we don't have the 2.0 liter version of the hatch here.) I've been thinking of going turbo with this car...

is it a good idea? i heard i will have problems with the ECU if i go turbo... and how will the engine internals take the boosting? has anyone done this before or is in the process of doing this project? thanks!!

Are there any turbo kits over there for that engine? I'm new to the Mazda scene, so I don't know how much power the bottom end can take, let alone on foreign engines. If you get a turbo kit, make sure to get one with a reprogrammed ECU with a turbo air-fuel ratio map (or buy one separately). You can usually get about 80% more power out of an engine with boost if it's done properly before you have to worry about engine failure. If you get a good reprogrammed ECU and your engine's compression is 9.0:1 or less, you shouldn't have any worries. Just make sure to get an Air/fuel ratio gague and keep an eye on it to ensure you never run lean. Hope this helps!
