View Full Version : 1st Gen Lower Tie Bars -- Official Sign Up
mazdaspeedwest May-31st-2003, 08:57 PM Hey Guys,
This is the new Round #2 sign up thread for my custom lower tie bars. As soon as i have atleast 8-10 ppl, the bars will be built and shipped. Pricing will depend on the orders, so the more ppl the better. Initial pricing is $210 shipped in the USA for both front and rear bars, last time with 15 ppl, i was able to offer them at around $150-170 shipped.
The Bars are 1" OD, 4130 Chromoly with smooth mandrel bends (front only, rear is straight) and Mild Steel welded endlinks that allow the use of the factory bolts, so these bars will be direct bolt-ons. All professionally made by Boeing certified welders. The bars are also very lightweight.
All info can be found here: http://www.mazdaracer.com/pro/perf_products_tiebars.htm Please use the form as well as posting here.
thanks.

try to be kind to this one huh :D :D
beachnut June-3rd-2003, 10:57 AM Here's a question for you Darryl - do you think the front tie bar will interfere with a ST front sway bar since the ST is an add-on "under" bar? That upgrade's on my radar scope sometime soon.

Mahahaha. Aye, I will.
I believe with this one, I'll just put it on for races however troublesome it might be. I just don't like having to slow down for small bumps during the daily driving. :)
I'll land up getting a hold of a strut tower bar to help stiffen her up topside. Better than nothing, I say. :bt:

There's no conflict between the two parts. I've had them both since Darryl's first group buy last year.

uhhh, ya what he said
happydog2 June-5th-2003, 09:59 AM Please put me down for a front.
mazdaspeedwest June-5th-2003, 11:46 AM I'll do what i can do help with shipping and customs costs for our Canadian and overseas members.
The powder coating is merely a guess at this point ($25 per set) but that could change. I am dropping off the bars to the shop tonight so they can make the tooling and templates for the run off. I'll really only know exact costs when i know how many bars are to be powder coated.
I also may require 50% of the cost as a down payment to get things made, as i requre to give the shop a 50% payment to start. I just can't afford to pay upfront for (an estimated) 40 bars...

zenilder June-10th-2003, 02:12 PM Darryl, how much will the ST bars be? Are you making both the front and rear?
mazdaspeedwest June-10th-2003, 11:00 PM the ST bars are still being prototyped, so exact pricing is not available yet. I hope to have the first front bar prototype by the weekend. The rear bars are a little ways off, like maybe a month.
mazdaspeedwest June-10th-2003, 11:09 PM Well, i stopped by the shop today to drop off a few things and to my suprise, they were making bars!!! I wasn't expecting anything until i atleast paid him some money. Which made me feel good that he feels he can just start making things and getting materials. The guys are very cool!
So, when i said i "might" need a 50% down payment from you guys, well, i infact do need it now. I had a very hard time cutting a 4 zero check tonight for the first 20 bars....
So please, i need some help here. All i ask right now is $75 and the balance due when the bars are shipped, which could be as early as Monday!!!!
Please send your Paypal payment to email <automedia@mail3000.com>
If you need to send a Check or Money Order, please PM or email me and i'll send the info.
Another thing, i will have a solid quote for the Black Chrome powder coating tomorrow night, but ball park is $8-10 per bar.
beachnut June-11th-2003, 12:22 PM Darryl, I sent you the $75.
Put me down for the powdercoating on the tie bars, but not on the front strut bar.
Also put me down for a non-powdercoated rear strut bar when they become available.
Thanks for doing this group buy dude!
mazdaspeedwest June-12th-2003, 11:48 PM Thanks alot guys, much appreciated.
mazdaspeedwest June-13th-2003, 12:40 AM I made another drive by tonight and all the rear bars are completed and ready for powder coating. The front bars need to be sent out for the mandrel bends and depending on thier workload, could be completed by the end of next week, powder coated and all, ready to ship the following Monday. (hopefully that saturday, so it dosen't kill my whole lunch hour :) )
Re: Powder Coating
Small color change. In order to keep costs to a minimum, i had to go with a different color than Black Chrome. While still very close, it will be a Metallic Grey. In order to have Black Chrome, i had to buy a batch of the paint (or powder, or whatever it is) I was under the impression it was already in stock, i appologize for this....soooo i had to choose a color that WAS in stock. Also, with the Black Chrome, there was a clear coat process, which pushed the price up....
The price is now confirmed at $24 per kit, or $12 per bar. BC would have been $35 per kit, and i felt thats just too much. They will also go through a sand blast process prior to coating, so it will be a long lasting and a good looking part for a long time to come. This particular Grey is very durable and the sand blasting ensures a really good bond.
Re: Front Strut Bars
Once again, these will be a one piece design, and made for racing :) They will also come with the same matching Metallic Grey powder coating. The first Prototype should also be done by sometime next week, or at latest, early the following week. I will then test fit it and also test it under racing conditions the following weekend (6/28-29) Once it passes the test and fits perfect, production will start. I realize the price may be initially kinda high, but these are custom one peice bars, made from scratch and in pretty low quantities. But i garauntee it will be a great part, both in looks and performance.
Powder coating for the strut bars will be $24 each. Exact same process as the tie bars. Bar pricing is yet to be confirmed, but once the first prototype is made, i will get a price posted ASAP.
Re: Rear Strut Bars & Engine torque Braces
When the front bar is all tested and production commenced, i will start to look at the rear bar and the torque braces. This is comsuming alot of my time (and money) right now, so i need to slow down a little bit. But i have big plans...Stay tuned :)
thanks for all your support!!!!
UCSBgeek June-21st-2003, 04:33 PM Wait, since production has started, does that mean it's too late to order? I'm trying to scrounge up money....
beachnut June-21st-2003, 04:43 PM Don't go hungry dude! :p

yes, you can still order.
mazdaspeedwest June-25th-2003, 01:14 AM the Bars will be ready by the end of the week. I can't wait to see how they look powder coated, i'm stoked on this.
Please guys, i'll need full payment by Friday. I have only gotten a few payments so far and those were just the $75 prepay. For those that did send the $75, your balance will be $125.
full kit powder coated = $200 shipped in USA
full kit unpainted = $180 shipped in USA
front bar powder coated = $117 shipped in USA
front bar unpainted = $105 shipped in USA
rear bar powder coated = $100 shipped in USA
rear bar unpainted = $88 shipped in USA
It's pretty tight for me to put up all the money up front to make these, so help a brutha out. If you signed up here, step up...please.
Thanks.

"Hey dad, ..." :)
I'm trying! Cause I reallllly want these. And then the strut bar! :) THANK YOU for organizing all these useful 1st gen groupbuys :D
mazdaspeedwest June-25th-2003, 01:51 AM no problem Chas. Like Scott said, don't go hungry dude, i'll keep a set on ice for ya.
The strut bar starts as soon as the tie bars are done, so i expect the prototype the first week of July or thereabouts.
mazdaspeedwest July-1st-2003, 11:37 PM picked up the bars tonight. They look killer. The pics don't do them justice. But come pretty close. Anyway. Those that have paid, they will ship ASAP. Those that haven't, the time is now.
The new and improved design, shortened the hang of the bar by 1/4" - 3/8" So it sits a bit higher now. Otherwise, same same.
thanks!

kagekun July-2nd-2003, 04:31 PM my payment is sent :D
mazdaspeedwest July-3rd-2003, 01:26 PM thanks guys!
BTW, the shop misunderstood my instructions for the powder coating, after unwraping all the bars today i noticed they ended up doing all but 2 bars....when i wanted half and half (12 bars)
Sooooooooo, the one unpainted set is already sold, all others are painted. Sorry for the mix-up, but there's really nothing i can do about it now.
Liquid_Ag July-8th-2003, 09:12 AM how much are u selling them for now?

I only have powder coated ones left. $200 for both front and rear bars shipped in the USA.
Liquid_Ag July-10th-2003, 08:06 AM what color(s) and can i just get the fronts?
mazdaspeedwest July-10th-2003, 02:31 PM they are powder coated a dark metallic grey. I'd prefer to sell them as kits, but if you really just want the front only, it's $117 shipped in the USA.
