My huge cup of coffee only lasted me 2 1/2 hours. Now I have to surf the net, or walk around a little to stay awake.
So Sir_Nuke, working hard again? or you just up late (or early)?

as always i think i am the one with stupid and annoying questions :)
how do those rings attach? clip-on, superglue?
how would you get behind the glass? (sorry, didn't
bother taking my dash apart yet)
DaveB December-4th-2002, 11:10 PM The bezels were machined to have a slip-on fit. The larger ring has a tighter fit and should not need any adhesive but the 2 smaller rings are a little looser and may need a couple drops of some sort of adhesive. But I have driven around now for 3 days with mine on without any adhesive and they haven't moved at all. You can use the adhesive if you feel they are not tight enough. As to the question how do you get behind the glass. It will require you to take out 5 screws, unplug 3 electrical connectors and gently unclip the clear plastic cover. Install the rings and repeat in the opposite order. Hope this helps.
There is a thread in the How-To's Section about replacing the gauges that shows pics of the screws and electrical connectors.

DaveB December-5th-2002, 06:32 PM Sorry Guys
I just got home from work and found my inbox full. I just did a little house cleaning. Should now have some room open for more PM's.
Update on first 10 sets. They are all gone.
Good news to the ones that got them and also good news for the ones that didn't. I got such a great responses that I'm going to have to go into work this weekend and make more. I will have around 10 to 15 more sets to ship out immediately on Monday. So if you missed out on the first ten sets, your wait will only be a couple more days. Thanks for all your orders guys. I hope you like them as much as I do mine.
To all those that have E-mailed me or sent me a PM, I am responding to you all. Just got a little crazy here. You will all hear from me today or tomorrow.
Thanks again.
DaveB December-8th-2002, 09:17 AM Bezels Important Notice!
DO NOT USE SUPER GLUE!!!!!
One of the other guys used it and he said it ruined his black bezels and also his clear plastic cover. He said he may have used to much and didn't let it dry completely. So if you are going to use something maybe just some double sided tape or clear silicone sealant, something that will not emit fumes.
Also too everyone that has already purchased a set I am going to make the 2 small rings to have the same fit as the larger one. It definitely doesn't need any adhesive. When they turn out, I will ship you 2 new small rings.

DaveB
Yes folks, that would be me. In all fairness, I did use entirely too much super glue. I must have left my brain somewhere else when I did this. :p
Superglue has some nasty fumes whilst drying. I found this out the hard way.
If you do use any type of adheasive, give it plenty of time to dry before re-assembly of your cluster. Lack of patients at this stage will reign disaster!! Live and learn.
Best best is to wait for Dave to make the new batch of smaller rings. The Large center ring pressure fits, with no problems. What I did was just foolish (and I'm old enough to know better, but it happens!!!)
Thanks for the update DaveB. Appreciate your concern. :)
Happy Holidays,
Jim

pr5zoom December-14th-2002, 08:59 AM Dave,
I installed the bezels yesterday. They look fantastic. They really improve the appearence of the gauge cluster. I highly recommend them for anyone interested. The second set's slip fit was great. I drove all day on Ohio's pot-holed road, not a bezel flying in sight. Thanks from all of us for your great customer service, packaging, etc. If you do MT pedals. I'll be the first on the list.
Thanks

these look great! Any chance you can make a set that is less polished, i.e. a little bit duller to match the gun-metal accents throughout the Protege ES/Protege5?

slikpro December-21st-2002, 02:29 AM I wish I could or knew how, I don't have a digital camera.
Like I said they fit perfectly. The press fit is what makes it work. You will be amazed.
There is a how to on how to remove and replace the gauge cluster, I think the thread was about installing glow gauges. Search and you will find.

Yeah, I know all about the gauge install, since I made it, heh. Just wondering how the rings would fit on a 99 without the indentations around the edges. Thanks.

I shipped 6 sets to Singapore and just found out that 2 sets were for 2nd Gen. cars and in the current configuration they do not fit. They have asked me if there is any mod. that could be done to make them fit. I would need to see/get my hands on a 2nd Gen. car to see what could be done. So for right now the rings are only good for 3rd Gen. cars. Sorry! But will be looking into the 2nd Gen. problem very soon.
Arkos & damaster
I have made a couple of brushed alum. sets and sent them out along with the polished alum. ones and everyone has preferred the polished ones over the brushed. End of story. Only making the polished one now.
DaveB February-16th-2003, 08:28 AM Just posted in the Tech Articles/How-to's section a link to my, How to install the bezels rings Videos. Hope this helps everyone out. Heres the link http://www.protegeclub.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=20799
mypfizzle February-17th-2003, 04:09 PM dave.. just recieved them today.. thanks for the ultra fast and courteous service.. you are an awesom person to deal with. -=)
anyhow. i got them home. pulled the guage cluster out and scratched the thing on the back of the steering wheel. aRgh.. oh well live and learn.. do anyone doin this.. put a towel or old shirt over it.. no biggie.. got it inside and they all actually press fit right on. to be sure i got some double sided tape. cut a thin piece that went all the way around each bezel and stuck em in.. i put a book on top of each one for about 15 minutes to allow then to set..
popped em in the car and they look AWESOME with my carbon fiber guage overlays.. and they really look good with my silver car.. ill get some pics up soon. anyone who hasnt considered these should really check them out..

[Cruzer] June-12th-2003, 01:27 AM dave... wondering the same thing... still for sale??
BUMP..
jaisai01 June-12th-2003, 03:59 AM last i heard from dave,
the last set he was making might have been his last cuz he was running out of material. that was about a week ago. soo.
DaveB June-12th-2003, 04:09 AM Cruzer, the answer is Yes. I even have some in stock right now. I just finished a very large house renovation where I had to take the home office apart for almost 2 weeks so I kind of fell a little behind, but that is now all behind us and I just ran the next batch of rings. 35 more sets to be exact but they are going fast because I was keeping a back order list and I just finished filling it, so I now have only 7 sets left. I will be making even more this Sunday. Just to let everyone know I'm now making them in two finishes 1) Polished to look like Chrome and 2) Brushed Aluminum look. They are $30.00 per set + shipping. Shipping cost are around $3.85 in the States and $7.00 to Canada. Just PM me here or send me and E-mail at DKBODDE@aol.com
tailland June-12th-2003, 08:21 AM hi dave, fine thing you managed the renovation.
had contact with your wife kelly and got my hands on 6 sets :-)

DaveB June-14th-2003, 04:58 AM Sorry NegatiZe but I haven't seen any E-mail or PM's from you. But I just PM'ed you with the info you will need to order a set. Like I said, I have both finihses in stock right now. Thanks for your inquiry in the rings.

Intruder June-19th-2003, 03:03 PM Hey Dave, I would really like to have a set of those, but I have a 2nd gen.... Have you looked at a solution for us, the unfortunate 2nd gen owners? I would REAAALLLLYYYY love to have a set. :(
Poseur July-17th-2003, 05:06 AM Dave, just pm'd you, I have paypal, and allthat jazz, so lemmie know.
I'm sorta up in the air, I'm gonna dig around and see if I can find pics of the brushed ones... I'm pretty sure my friend's gonna want the polished, but I'll have to check.

THanks
dzungh
DaveB August-2nd-2003, 10:30 AM Hey dzungh,
Yes, I am still making the gauge rings in both the polished and brushes finishes. I will be making about 50 more sets give or take a couple, but when I run out of material this time I'm going to be calling it quits. I really want work on some other projects for our cars and cannot find the time when all I seem to be doing is running rings. I will PM you all the details about the rings and payment options.
natedizzle August-2nd-2003, 10:51 AM daveb, can you please count me in on a set of polished ones
Poseur October-4th-2003, 07:13 PM I just got my brushed rings in the mail today. Very well done, Everything went together without a problem. I'm VERY impressed with Dave's thouroughness... Well packaged, promptly recieved, and the installation videos took all of the guesswork out of the installation process. Oh, yea and they look Great. The brushed finish very nicely matched the rest of the stock mazda interior trim pieces.
Installation took me about 20 mins being very cautious so I didn't scratch anything. The bezels all "clicked" into place and seated firmly without an issue. The fit is probobaly the most precise of anything on the car. I'd post pics, but I'm pretty sure we've all seen them.
Thanks again Dave. Awesome product, let us know if you start making anything else. Form my experience with these bezels, I'm inclined to say that I'd just about blindly buy anything that you felt was marketable.
