About Protege5 Wind Complaints

A lot of people has told me that the Protege5 has a lot of wind noise from the sunroof. This is ofcoarse when the moonroof is open correct?

I am thinking of not getting moonroof option.

I sure hope so. Mine only makes noise when I have it open. I like the option of being able to get some aditional air in, and I really like the extra light.

My other car is a convertible, so I like to be able to access the sky.

Dale.

No, even when it is closed you can hear it, only when your going about 60-70, it whistles; although you can get a moon roof deflector. I dont have one but I hear that it solves the problem, that or you can just take off the roof racks..

I guess I must have a good one then. I don't notice any whistle with mine.

I never heard the whistle with mine either. The day after we got the car, I removed the roof racks, cause I'll never use them. I also purchased a wind deflector. With those two things done, you can hardly tell that the roof is open, if you have slide back. If it's popped up, then it still makes a lot of noise.

just get the wind gard for the sun roof....cuts the noise down 90%

oh ya if you have the roof rack remove it cause apparently that causes alot of wind noise too

Lightbulb roof racks possibility!

I dont believe its the sun/moonroof that is making the noise ... its the roof racks... i have both the moonroof option and the roof racks on my P5 and if i take off the roof racks the noise is basically gone.. there will always be a little noise cuz of the wind blowing by us p5 owners at such high speeds......

easy fix

Any wind or road noise you experience in your car can be
easily fixed: just turn up the radio.

This also works if you need to fix noises coming from your
engine, steering, or exhaust.

Before I bought my Pro5 I test drove a couple of 'em (one stick, one auto), but neither had a moon roof. I took both of 'em out on the highway and didn't hear much noise to speak of.

When I took delivery of mine, which has the moon roof, I noticed some wind noise even with the moon roof closed. I got the deflector, and that pretty much took care of it.

KEEP THEKEEP the Moonroof, you will NOT regret it, I have had so many comments on it...and it is such an awesome addition.

Get a deflector and remove the roofrack to solve the wind noise, I don't have wind noise, but I don't have the roofrack either.

I noticed this wind noise too, but kinda thought it was the roof rack. I took the roof rack off for a couple of months and then put it back on. Then I noticed the wind noise again, but when I first got the car I did think it was the moonroof. So I'm convinced.

How do I remove the rack

I lost the instructions for removing the factory rack? Has anyone found directions online or can give me a quick rundown?

Thanks

wind noise

well i get excessive wind noise starting from about 110 km/h...at first i thought it was a high speed warning now common in many cars..but i quickly realised it was wind noise..as it gets worse in times of high wind conditions. i've got a sedan by the way so i think the problem is endemic to all 3rd gen pros...i think somewhere someone said it is also caused by the windshield wipers...the car also feels very unstable at times during windy conditions (i know you're thinking what car doesnt) but the protege seems to do it a lot..also becomes unstable at speed of 165 km/h..

anyways..
